A few weeks ago I followed Orsi and her team on one of the local “Raids” – Raids are Adventure Racing Team events involving a team of 3 or 4 team members who have to use orienteering skills to race over back country terrain and reach checkpoints by way of navigation. Typically the events consist  of multiple disciplines such as running/trekking, mountain biking, climbing/rappelling and also kayak/swim stages. Teams collect points for accurately reaching each checkpoint and making it to transitions and back to the finish in a set time frame. The Raid Cidade de Ferrol – Costa Ártabra was a 10hr event. Which meant that teams had to complete as many checkpoints as possible in the designated time. The smarter teams know how to make the best use of the time and collect the most points by strategically planning their race.

Here is my collection of images shot on the day at various stages and transitions.

Orsi’s team “Liceo Vulpes” won the Adventure category although two of the team suffered from injuries and was rewarded with some local cheese and a trophy. The cheese is now added to the olive oil collection. Hopefully next race we can win some ham.
